James Kim, MD, is an expert cardiologist at his practice in National City and Chula Vista, California. He has a special interest in lipidology and blood pressure management, cardiac rehabilitation, non-invasive/invasive cardiology, advanced imaging, preventive cardiology, echocardiography, cardiac catheterization, nuclear cardiology, biomedical technology, and medical entrepreneurship.
Dr. Kim earned his Bachelor of Science in computer science and minor in mathematics from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He attended Northwestern University for his post-graduate studies in pre-medicine before earning his Doctor of Medicine with honors from the Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. Upon graduating, he completed his internal medicine internship and residency at the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was nominated for chief resident. He then completed a cardiovascular medicine fellowship at the University of California, San Diego.
Dr. Kim emphasizes a high level of communication and places huge importance on trust and rapport. As a kind and caring physician, he focuses on patients’ overall health and well-being. He is well-trained in using the most up-to-date therapies to treat all spectrums of heart disease. Dr. Kim takes a holistic approach to care, aiming to treat patients without relying on medications, and utilizing non-invasive solutions before recommending procedures. Furthermore, he educates his patients so they make health decisions together as a team.
Board certified in cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Kim also holds board certification from the American Society of Echocardiography. He gives numerous academic lectures to physicians, residents, and medical students, and published several papers throughout his career. To better serve patients, he is fluent in English, Spanish, and Korean. Outside of work, Dr. Kim enjoys traveling, hiking, and spending time with his family. He is a husband and father to three young children.
